Laura Jacobs with moving figures: A decade on dance

by James Panero

Let us be the first to announce a very exciting publishing event: Laura Jacob’s amazing dance reviews for The New Criterion have been collected into a book called Landscape with Moving Figures: A Decade on Dance (Rosen publishing). But don’t take our word for it. Here is what Francis Mason, editor of Ballet Review and dance critic for WQXR, has to say about it:

Every person who’s been fascinated by a dance performance must read this book. Laura Jacobs of The New Criterion magazine is our best dance critic: with knowledge and wit, she tells us what dances are all about, takes them apart and puts them back together so we understand.
It’s no secret in the offices of TNC that Laura Jacobs is one of our most beloved essayists. She is a perfectionist down to the last turn of phrase and pas de deux. Fortunately, now you too can have a chance to meet her at a book launch, reading, and signing at the National Arts Club. This event is open to the public, so mark your calendars now for 6 pm *tonight*, Friday, June 9, at NAC, 15 Gramercy Park South, New York.

I plan to be there, and you may recognize me by the pink chrysanthemum placed in my buttonhole.
