Is Conservatism Dead?

by Roger Kimball

Posted: Sep 15, 2009 07:30 AM

James Piereson, whose essay about Sam Tanenhaus's premature obituary of conservatism appears in our September issue (available on-line here), was interviewed a few days ago by Ed Driscoll over at Pajamas Media. Catch Ed's commentary and, the video interview, here. Jim and Ed discuss not only Sam Tanenhaus's book The Death of Conservatism but also some larger issues including the resurgence of what Mr. Piereson has called "punitive liberalism," the unfortunate tendency of some prominent strains of illiberal liberalism to focus on the supposed sins of America rather than its achievements and opportunities.
