The New Criterion

The New Criterion is probably more consistently worth reading than any other magazine in English.

Tuesdays @ Fitz

Posted: Jun 22, 2004 12:00 PM

Is on tonight!

The Algonquin had a round table. The New Criterion has an Irish pub on the Upper East Side. We call the fete, "Tuesdays." The editors invite you to ’meetup’ with other New Criterion readers tonight at Fitzpatrick’s, 1641 Second Avenue (and 85th Street), New York, from 8 p.m. on. Mention ’The New Criterion’ to the barmaid and receive a special surprise.

Assistant Editor Stefan Beck will be there. Will you? Remember: bad things happen to people who don’t make it. Topic ’A’ will be Valery Gergiev’s production of ’Der Ring des Nibelungen’. Topic ’B’ will be the results of Stefan’s physical fitness test, 6:30 tonight at Equinox.

About ArmaVirumque

( AHR-mah wih-ROOM-kweh)

In the Aeneid, the Roman poet Virgil sang of "arms and a man" (Arma virumque cano). Month in and month out, The New Criterion expounds with great clarity and wit on the art, culture, and political controversies of our times. With postings of reviews, essays, links, recs, and news, Armavirumque seeks to continue this mission in accordance with the timetable of the digital age.
