Myron Magnet

Myron Magnet is the National Civic Art Society’s Research Fellow. He was the 2020–21 Visiting Critic at The New Criterion and is Editor-at-Large of City Journal. Myron’s varied career—as an English professor at Columbia, a writer on management and social policy for Fortune, and the editor of City Journal during the Giuliani revival of New York and the city’s recovery from 9/11—accounts for the breadth of topics of his books: Dickens and the Social Order (ISI), The Dream and the Nightmare: The Sixties’ Legacy to the Underclass (Encounter), The Founders at Home: The Building of America, 1735-1817 (W. W. Norton), and Clarence Thomas and the Lost Constitution (Encounter). He has written articles on such diverse subjects as architecture and Tocqueville for publications ranging from The New York Times to The Wall Street Journal and has edited books about sex, cities, and immigration. He received the National Humanities Medal in 2008.
