To the Editors:
Martin Greenberg, who translated the selections in Kleist’s The Marquise of O— and Other Stories, told me the other day that he had seen Arthur A. Cohen’s article on Kleist in the December issue of The New Criterion (“The Sufferings of Heinrich von Kleist”) and was pleased by the high praise Mr. Cohen gave his work, calling it “a splendid translation.” Unfortunately, Mr. Cohen also added the fatal words “long out of print.” Fatal, because quite untrue.
This edition of Kleist’s work has been on the Ungar list for many years since we took it over from the original publisher. We issue it in both hardcover and paperback, and both are still in print. And the title story will be issued with Erich Rohmer’s screenplay for The Marquise of O— this spring. So Kleist is still very much with us.
