This issue carries our seventh annual special section on
poetry, once again overseen by David Yezzi, our Executive
Editor. In addition to some fine poems by Michael Spence,
Debora Greger, and Bill Coyle, this issue contains
essays on the half-forgotten poets Walter de la Mare, John
Townsend Trowbridge, and Rudyard Kipling, as well as
appreciations of Seamus Heaney and the continuing vitality
of the New Criticism. Serious attention to poetry seems
more and more a minority interest in our society: we are
pleased to offer this rejoinder.
